Fiber Optic Operated Switch Box - FOOSB

FOOSB
The FOOSB is a switch box used to operate mechanisms, such as but not limited to valves, pumps, and sensors by delivering power, closing a relay contact, and/or sensing whether or not a circuit is open or closed. The FOOSB then sends information about the operational state of the mechanism that it is controlling or interfacing with back to the user. The FOOSB provides different abilities during operation, such as a; 'Power-Providing Ability', 'Switching Ability', Open/Closed Circuit Sensing Ability'.

Power Providing Ability: The FOOSB is able to provide 110 Volt AC at 60 Hertz with a maximum current of 5.0 amps providing uninterrupted power as long as the FOOSB receives an optical signal from the FODB. Power is cut when the optical signal from the FODB ceases. The FOOSB also provides a signal capable of controlling higher current solid-state relays if required.

Switching Ability: The FOOSB is able to close an internal switch in either a mechanical or solid-state relay. The switch is to create a closed circuit for various hardware interlocks. The current capability of the relay contacts is 500mA.

Open/Closed Circuit Sensing Ability: The FOOSB is able to sense whether the status circuit is in an open or closed state. Open and closed circuits are created by various switches that are actuated by conditions such as temperature, pressure, proximity, etc.
